About Us: An Introduction
The Red Mesa Foundation is part of the movement in which Native Americans Christian leaders feel ownership, provide leadership and set the direction for ministry. Our roots are in the first missionary effort of the Christian Reformed Church in North America which established two Christian day schools and 20 churches and missions among Navajo and Zuni people that still exist today.
The Foundation encourages leaders, tells the stories of what God is doing and provides financial support for Christian ministry in Northwest New Mexico and Northeast Arizona.
The Red Mesa Foundation came about through much discussion in the mid to late 1990s among church leaders in Red Mesa and the Christian Reformed Board of Home Missions.
The Red Mesa Foundation, a non-profit 501 c 3 organization, is governed by a board with a majority of Native American. We have two main constituents: the Classis Red Mesa, the regional association and ecclesiastical body for 20 churches and schools, and the Red Mesa Christian School Association of Rehoboth Christian School and Zuni Christian Mission School.
In 2000 the newly formed Red Mesa Foundation received 1000 acres of the remaining land assets of the Christian Reformed Church east of Gallup New Mexico. It immediately transferred the 160 acre campus to the Rehoboth Christian School. It has sold several parcels and is working to develop the remaining land for the benefit of the local people and long-term income for the ministries.
