Colby Touchine: Growing as Christian Leader
When Colby Touchine was still a pre-schooler, there was something about the atmosphere in a Christian church that attracted him. He begged his mother, Gloria Dennison, to take him to church and that led to her becoming a follower of Jesus. Within a few years, God brought Colby and Gloria to the Christian community at Rehoboth, where they became members at the Rehoboth CRC and Colby began his education at Rehoboth Christian School.
Colby’s Christian community now includes people throughout the United States. For three summers he participated in the Continental Singers, a Christian performing group that gives concerts in mega churches and on street corners. He enjoyed staying with and getting to know host families across the country. And he enjoyed looking into audiences and seeing that people were being touched by the message presented in music, drama and dance.
Colby’s interest in the performing arts has been growing through his experience at Rehoboth Christian School. Now at the end of his sophomore year at the High School, his passion is dance performance. He sees himself using dance in ministry, perhaps in teaching. Eventually, he’d like to open his own dance studio. He takes and gives dance lessons. Colby is a member of the Rehoboth Choir, also participating in Cantabile, an advanced group, which has additional practices and performances. Through that, he’s been able to participate in the New Mexico All-State High School Choir.
Colby’s interests extend beyond the performing arts to sports as well. He’s participated in cross country, soccer and basketball. And he’s doing well academically. He plans to attend a Christian college when he graduates from high school.
As he grows in his Christian walk and develops his talents for God’s service, Colby’s motto comes from Proverbs 15:33: The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility come before honor (NIV).
